Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen concert video 13. February 2026

Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen: vibrational difference # III (a remembrance of collapse) concert,

part of Block 4 dialogues I at Toinen Kerros by Äänen Lumo(Nokiantie 2), Helsinki (FI)

vibrational difference is a series of sound performances based on Madsen's geological field recordings from mine explosions undertaken at the iron mine Malmberget, Sabmé in June 2024, where sound waves are activated by human-induced seismic events which in the piece are the foundation for a gradual drone composition which bear witness to a dynamic and violent transformation of the landscape. The dynamite blastings are here witnesses of a resonance moving across the geological and the socio-political. The fieldwork and recordings undertaken at Malmberget took place every night at midnight where Madsen visited different locations around the mine area with a geophone. The first recording was the closest possible to get to the main pit and the following recordings had varied degrees of intensity, also beyond the audible, and on the last day some rock-matter collapsed as a consequence which also became an evident rumble many kilometres away.

In the performance and piece vibrational difference # III, Madsen uses effect pedals to improvise with the recorded sounds to evoke a relation to both colonialism and human infrastructural damage through the sonic traces of mineral extraction from the mining industry. The low frequency sounds are thus extending themselves across the site of recording as pulsating sonic matter which connects the listener to both resonances of remembrance but also as an access to direct geological destruction.

Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen (DK) is an artist and researcher who works between performance art, sound, open technology, and matter, in a mode of practising and collaborating with philosophy and geological agency. Madsen holds a doctoral degree (Doctor of Arts) from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (FI) at the Department of Art and Media, and has worked with facilitation and education in multiple frameworks. Madsen has presented their sound and performance work internationally and is the founder of performance protocols, a nomadic platform for instruction-based art and collaborative processes. Madsen is a member of the Finnish Bioart Society, the Eco- and Bioart Lab (LiU), and a certified facilitator of Deep Listening workshops from the Center for Deep Listening, Rensselaer Polytech Institute (US).

new publications from Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen

From the desk of Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen :
"Some listening news: As an offshoot of my doctoral research, I wrote an essay titled "A Methodology for Geological Listening: An Experiential Field Approach" for the Anthology for Listening Vol. II, initiated by Bureau for Listening. My essay connects to my processes around the installation The Wall Beneath the Street (2024), and my lecture performance at the Listening Academy (2022) which both took place at Titanik in Turku (FI) as well as some notes connected to my publication and work around "affective listening with a (post)industrial landscape" from XM3 in Aalborg (DK 2023). The launch of the book will be tomorrow January 23rd at Koncertkirken in Copenhagen (DK) where some contributions will be presented live. I will unfortunately not be at the launch (but in spirit) but watch this space for a potential live version later on!

Madsen shows [proximity] sensing in, sensing out

What would happen if the focus were solely on the senses and the ephemerality of gestures and listening as the work of art itself? What if the act of facilitating relation(s) becomes a way to transversally connect to a place, a neighborhood, a city?

Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen’s installation at Oksasenkatu 11 is a laboratory where listening and sensing, moving and relating are core focal points. It is an ephemeral entity which is inhabited by lines of gestures, notes and reflections created collaboratively in the space by the artist and the participating audience. The laboratory installation additionally moves in and outside the gallery space, out in the park, to the street. It accommodates every-body, and it focuses on the micro for us to be aware of the macro. By relating to both what is here and what is absent, we learn about the privilege of the space but also about its potentiality for change. The installation is thought to be a transformational and experimental format which holds exchange as a crucial element, and consists of only minor elements to assist this process.

During the laboratory installation, Madsen will facilitate Deep Listening® sessions, geological listening propositions, and other interventions (both scheduled and spontaneously). Additionally, Madsen has invited guest artists to facilitate moments which relate to sensing, affective listening, queer corporeality and other modalities of knowing. These meetings connect to an embodied and embedded posthuman subjectivity which extends into other agencies and modalities of the world.

Steiner shows Absolute Power : Ohnmacht

Malte Steiners art project Absolute Power reflects since 2019 on power structures in politics, society and private life. The exhibition Absolute Power : Ohnmacht in Oksasenkatu 11 shows with several art pieces the consequences of the perceived powerlessness of the individual. The responses to loss of power vary widely and often they are the retreat into the private world of the nuclear family. The exhibition goes further by examining the new conservative and restrained world of so-called tradwives through an e-paper installation which generates art based on data scraped from Instagram.

Another response to the concept of Ohnmacht is anxiety and as a central part of the

installation, Steiner has created a panic room for Oksasenkatu 11 which could cause panic attacks. Additionally, at the extreme end of the spectrum is the exemplified attempt to reclaim power through violent acts which is e.g. seen in mass shootings.

The four art pieces which constitute Absolute Power: Ohnmach are ranging from paintings to computer-controlled electronic displays, and they are shown in Helsinki for the first time.

During the opening times records from their label block 4 will be available for a special price.
